My 10 Top Old School Swedish Death Metal

I was asked for my opinion on the Best Old School Swedish Death Metal albums, so here it is. To a long time fan most of the choices would seem pretty obvious, but here's my say anyway .........

1.) Entombed "Left Hand Path" - Recorded Dec. 1989, released in 1990 is easily the most important Swedish Death Metal album, as it defined the sound of the genre and encouraged many other bands to establish themselves as well. If you don't have this, you don't know Swedish Death Metal.

2.) Unleashed "Shadows In The Deep" - Recorded and released in 1992  is the band's 2nd full length and in my opinion their best effort from the old days. Sick riffs!

3.) Dismember "Like An Everflowing Stream" - Recorded and released in 1991  is the band's 1st full length and still has to be the most powerful record they ever did. Fantastic!

4.) Carnage "Dark Recollections" - Recorded and released in 1990 is the band's one and only album, after which the band split with Michael Amott joining Carcass and the other members re-forming Dismember. Classic Studio Sunlight album, should appeal to every fan.

5.) God Macabre "The Winterlong" - Recorded in 1991 and released in 1993 is the band's one and only album, but what an album it is! Instead of straightforward brutality done by others, these guys put a lot of atmosphere into the sound to create an album with a lot of soul. My personal favorite Swedish Death Metal album of all time, highly recommended!

6.) Sorcery "Bloodchilling Tales" - Recorded Dec. 1990, released in 1991 is the band's one and only album. I guess it can be considered a concept album, as every song is a true bloodchilling tale! Truly great oldschool Death Metal of highest quality, should appeal to all fans!

7.) Gorement "The Ending Quest" - Recorded in 1993 and released in 1994 is the band's one and only album. The Ending Quest is easily one of the most brutal releases from Sweden. Lots of tempo changes, with parts grinding down furiously - while others are slow and filled with crushing doom! Fantastic album!

8.) Grave "Into The Grave" - Recorded and released in 1991 is the band's first full length and is a clasSick of morbidity and brutality! Highest quality Death Metal.

9.) Necrophobic "The Nocturnal Silence" - recorded and released in 1993 is the band's first full length. This album is pure Evil! Featuring one of the most talanted lead guitarists ever - David Parland!

10.) Therion "Of Darkness" - Recorded in 1990 and released in 1991 is the band's first full length and the only album that can be considered pure Death Metal, as the band went for a symphonic sound on later albums.

Thanks for reading and...Coming up Cuff Interview \m/
