Suchu - What are you doing nowadays?
Mike - I am a full time cook/manager at local restaurant Pj Whelihans, engaged to be married, and I front Belligerent with a bunch of down ass dudes. We have been writing all new songs and can't wait to play them live.
Suchu - Can i get the story of your band and biography? What is the meaning of Belligerent to the band?
Mike - Belligerent rose from the ashes of many of bands that were formulated through out the years amongst the members in this band. This band has members from South Jersey locals such as Landmine, Barbaric, and Enemies Deceased. So we all came from a good amount of hardcore background and influence. The meaning of Belligerent is right in the name. We don't take no shit and when you come at us we come right back at you. Full force.
Suchu - What are the lyrical themes you use in your song?gore, horror, politics, anti religion etc..
Mike - Real shit. LOL. We sing about people that backstab us who we thought were our boys, we have songs about fallen friends, we have a few about how it feels to be judged when you have a problem with addiction, we have a title track about what we represent as a band, we have another about growing up. And personally we don't fuck with politics. That shit is for the birds. LOL.
Suchu - How it feels to be in an Underground band? And for how many years you are in this scene?
Mike - Being in a band period is great. And we are all in our 30s, so we have been doing this thing for almost 20 years.
Suchu - Which are the bands that have influenced your band most?
Mike - Blood For Blood, Converge, Minor Threat, S.O.D., Hatebreed, Terror, Shattered Realm, Crowbar to name a few.
Suchu - What are the future plans of Belligerent? any tours, releases, recordings etc.
Mike - Right now we are just writing music, and we only have 2 shows lined up. But we do plan on putting out a record before the end of this year or early 2018.
Suchu - How do you feel about the classifications in metal? like deathcore, metalcore and other subgenres..
Mike - Fuck a genre. You listen to what you listen to and if someone clowns you for it, then they themselves are the clown.
Suchu - In general term metal isn't appreciated by Society what do you have to say on this?
Mike - Fuck society.
Suchu - What is your opinion on sites posting Underground Materials?
Mike - If this is pertaining to music, then good. Post it up. But if you really want to support the band, buy their shit.
Suchu - Ok, what do you want to tell those peoples who rips off the band hard work and illegally downloads their music?
Mike - Meh, you'll get that anywhere. Just keep writing your shit and maybe one day you'll end up like Metallica and start suing everyone that illegally downloads your shit. LOL.
Suchu - Beside Belligerent do you have any other projects you have? If then, Can you tell us about those projects in few words?
Mike - My drummer and I started a side project called Square Up, but it still has a waysssss to go.
Suchu - Is it hard surviving in underground Scene?
Mike - We don't really tour like that considering our lives outside of being a band, but yes if we all didn't have full time jobs it would be near impossible to survive off the income the underground scene has to offer.
Suchu - Metal has to be underground or metal has to go mainstream, what's your opinion?
Mike - Both. It depends on what you truly want to do with your musical endeavors. Keep it underground and raw, or take it to a studio and make it fresh and new sounding. That all depends on your band and what they want out of it.
Suchu - What is your opinion on the current state of underground metal?
Mike - It's strong, and it will keep getting tougher as long as kids still come out to shows.
Suchu - Which is the album you want to take to your grave?
Mike - Converge- “Jane Doe”
Suchu - Can you recommend us some good bands from your country for our readers?
Mike - Departed, Cognitive, Corpse Hoarder, Kill The Stigmatic, Eaten Alive, Hate Diplomacy, Ground, Dissent, Prosper or Perish, Gloves Off, Barbaric, Time Spent, Concrete, Blasphemous, One With Nothing, Dark Waters End, Emblugeonment, Splitwig, Drawn Out, The Filthy Boys, The Badluck 13 Riot Extravaganza, Sparklefight, Disinhume, Urban Resist, Eye of the Destroyer, Kids These Days, Sunbreaker, Duress, Your Persona, and there are sooooo many more to name. I just can't think of anymore right now haha.
Suchu - Support Underground Metal, how much you agree on this quote?
Mike - Hell yea!
Suchu - Where do our readers can buy and listen Belligerent and any other merchandise?
Mike - We have a link to our Bandcamp, on the bands Facebook page and all songs are free to the public. Merch can be purchased from our BigCartel or coming out to our shows.
Suchu - Do you remember your first show with Belligerent, How was it and how did the crowd reacted to your first show?
Mike - We opened a local show at a bar/venue named Harpers, and surprisingly for our first show there was a good amount of heads and we didn't do bad at all. A couple of kids moshed and moved around. All in all it was a great night. Our full set from our first show is up on YouTube if anyone wants to check it out.
Suchu - Metal Fans from Nepal doesn't have a proper way to reach your records and any other such bands, Is there an easy way so we can also get the hold of cds, shirts etc.
Mike - Contact one of us and if we have the extra cash, we can mail you some merch personally.
Suchu - Do you have any plans to come to Kathmandu (Nepal) in coming days?
Mike - We would love to, but of course this would take a lot of planning and sufficient funds to be able to make a trip like that.
Suchu - What do you hate in Underground Metal?like, anything..
Mike - If there is any left, racism. Fuck that shit.
Suchu - Your dream metal fest line up.
Mike - Dying Fetus, Converge, Pig Destroyer, The Dillinger Escape Plan all in that order. LOL.
Suchu - Quick top 5 albums we must have in our collection.
Mike - Blood For Blood- “White Trash Anthems”, Minor Threat- “Discography”, Hatebreed- “Satisfaction Is the Death Of Desire”, Converge- “Jane Doe”, Dying Fetus- “Destroy the Opposition”
Suchu - Lastly, a space for you anything EUMSN have forgotten to ask you can tell us here?
Mike - Yeah. Don't stop supporting the music you listen to, cause without that support we wouldn't have a scene.
