First of all, we would like to thank you everyone who made our tour happen. It’s been our long dream to be bale to come and play here in Nepal and India. Since this is our first time around, we just hope that you guys will enjoy our show. Playing in the new place is always a nerve wrecking experience for us, but knowing that you guys can enjoy our music, means a lot to us.

A little bit about Suaka, it was formed by 4 Indonesians living in New York City around 2002. We chose the name Suaka , which means Sanctuary, because that was sort of how we all felt at that time. Being Indonesians, newcomers, living and working in NYC and still trying to make music between works. Adjusting wasn’t easy, but we came together still to just jam, make music and have fun.  Although we have changed members through the first 3 albums, since then we’ve been set as a powerful 3 piece band.  We have toured through out the US and some part of the South East Asia.

Lyrically, we’ve been writing about anything we feel about the world in general.  Maybe a little bit of politics, social injustice, basically just dealing with daily things in this modern life.

Being an underground band allows us to be closer and more active in our music communities. I remember first time coming to NYC, there were so many underground bands played in different venues almost every weekend. Now with the cost of housing rental skyrocketed, many of those legendary places had to shut down. So we as musicians, we have to help to create those venues ourselves.  We have toured in the US where we played in so many community houses and that happened because there are so many hungry musicians out there trying hard to make things happened for each other. Our suggestions are just simple, keep supporting your local scene, supporting any bands, new or old, give everyone a chance, come to their shows, networking with other musicians or music lovers. 

As far as how we feel about the current state of extreme underground music, speaking from experience living here in NYC, I know things are not as big as it used to be. Seems like these days promoters would just put together 4 or 5 big bands and charge a lot of money. I understand the cost of rental is outrages, but for that reason itself, it kills a lot of opportunities for new bands. But luckily, there are a lot of extreme music die hards who keep these places open. Keep supporting your local scene and lets hope underground music scene will get better and better.

Talking about our first show, it was definitely a memorable one. Man, feels like it wasn’t that long ago. Around 2003, the world famous venue CBGB used throw weekend shows for new bands to show their music.  We thought that we would get on that.  That night, we packed the place. We had a great support from friends and family and also great response from the audience during our set.  Right after the show, we were given a lot to play there again to open for a big local band. The feeling that night was just amazing, something we could never forget.

If we can suggest some bands from here, this list mostly because we have played w them and we love these guys, maybe Moon Tooth, the Donner Party, Mindforce, Crawler, False Gods, BbigPpig.  These are just what came across right now.
