Interview with The Neighborhood Thrashers for Thrashmandu 2 2019

Whatever we have written till date is just a product what we and how we perceive our city and our environment.

Eumsn - First of all, thanks a lot for choosing to play in Nepal and India next, so what are you really looking forward from Nepali supporters?
Straight Edge : Well, to be fair and square this will be our second outstation gig. We have heard about the huge response Kathmandu holds for all of its underground gigs and we are excited as fuck to attend and obviously play for our brothers across the brother. As for expectations, we will deliver some old school crossover thrash and we hope to get you guys moshing and doing all kinda crazy shit you can.
Eumsn - Can I get the short biography on band? And what is the meaning of TNT  exactly means to the band?
Straight Edge : Cazz Bhai and I started jamming towards the end of 2015 and brainstorming on ideas and riffs. Shortly after we found Assholeman and Boba. We had our debut gig in the year 2016 at a small underground gig organised by our city's finest punk rock regime, "Calcutta Punk Society".  The band moved on to record our first single, "Machine Mankind" with Assholeman on vox. In 2018 however Assholeman left the and it was I who took up the job for vox duties and since then the band is a three member setup.
TNT stands for "The Neighborhood Thrashers". The name was conjured up by Assholeman and me. All four of us are immense comic book fans and the word "Friendly Neighborhood" rings to our minds when we see our Web-slinging buddy from Queens. He was an ordinary guy like us. Like him we belong to the streets and this is where we grew up. Our small neighborhood of a town and we wish to thrash when we can!
Eumsn - What are the lyrical themes you use in your song? gore, horror, politics, anti religion etc..
Straight Edge : Lyrical themes? Hmm. That's a tough one to explain given the categories of political, horror, gore, etc. We are none of them. There is no chief lyricist in our band, we just keep brainstorming ideas and the lyrics come up instantly. There is no definite theme to our lyrics but yes if I had to categorize it I'd like to call it a more anti-social approach to what we despise. Machine Mankind was a song written as how a man is entrapped in the corporate world, Children of the Trend is about how technology is fucking up the minds of the youth, Hellhole is about how substance abuse can make you lose yourself. There is definitely no theme. We write what we find relevant to us.
Eumsn - How it feels to be in a Underground band? And what’s your suggestions to other underground bands?
Cazz Bhai : Ya, it feels awesome to be a part of an underground form of art, Metal. It means every reason to bang our instruments to drain our negative energy which we gather throughout the day, everywhere. The purity of the music which we produce is the most satisfying thing to experience, ever. Frankly if need to suggest then, to the kids who are starting out to form bands, focus more on music, don't turn your passion into a fashion. I may sound damn serious but at the end of the day it's again the bitter truth. Finally, drink lots of beer if your parents aren't strict. Lol.
Eumsn - In general term extreme metal isn't appreciated by Society what do you have to say on this?
Cazz Bhai : You know the truth is always bitter to listen. Mass population of most of the countries are dumb to be honest. They can only follow a way which is followed by everyone, irrespective of judgement. Same follows with heavy metal. Metal as an umbrella term is an genre which grows upon people who have a very different mindset and patience. Opinions can be different but that's what I feel. I am not insulting other forms of music but extreme metal is the most aggressive form of music and naturally it becomes difficult for most of the people to appreciate. To be honest, Metal fans are those who are the blessed.
Eumsn - What is your opinion on the current state of extreme underground music?
Boba : The Underground will always be THERE. there will always be people (though only a handful) who will support the extreme Underground scene buying records, merchandises, attending gigs. The Vinyls and tapes are already making a comeback in the Underground Market. The best way to judge Underground is not to judge it.
Eumsn - Can you recommend us some good bands from your place for our readers?
Straight Edge : Well sure! I'd love to. Being an organiser myself I have a lot of those bands in my list. Starting off, you already know two of the best headed your way. Dreadhammer and Mustang are prepared to decimate all of you. Then there is our city's only hardcore punk band, Blakhole. They've been around for quite a long time. There is also Mortar, one of the pioneers of Kolkata old school thrash regime. Then you guys have already met one of the oldest thrash band of our city, Armament. There is also war-metal mongers, Kapala. There is Aparthiva Raktadhara, Mishanter, In Human, Vulgustrike, Necrocomicon.
Eumsn - Do you remember the feeling of your first show with TNT? and how did the crowd reacted to your first show?
Cazz Bhai : Oh yes. The first show of TNT was also my first stage experience. The crowd was brilliant. The adrenalin pump and rush within, is the best feeling while on stage. So the feeling for the first time stage with TNT was similar to any high dosage drug I guess! I think everyone in the band has a say regarding this..
Eumsn - What do you hate in current underground scene?

Boba : As I have already said, we should not be judgemental regarding the Underground. There is some good, there is some bad. That's how life is. But, yes if you want me to point out an area of improvement then I will say, boys should focus less on technicality and competition, and focus more on making simple songs with great impact that can influence the generation to come.
