Interview with Assault

ASSAULT facebook : Assault
ASSAULT WEBSITE : www.assaultsg.com
ASSAULT Twitter : Assault

Asmita- First of all, thanks a lot for interview, so what are you really looking forward from Nepali underground scene?
Clarence – Hi there, First of all, thanks a lot for this opportunity to be interviewed Extreme Underground Metal Society of Nepal! As a fellow metal head/musician I have also paid close attention to the development of the Nepali underground scene. Coincidentally I know and watch some of the Nepali band performed live e.g. Kalodin is one of them. I watch them live in Singapore back when they first launched their debut album back in 2010. ASSAULT was one of the supporting acts for their album launch.  I’m still in contact with some of its members till this day.
Asmita- Can I get the short biography of your band? And what is the meaning of Assaultexactly means to the band?
Clarence – ASSAULT was formed in mid of 2006, by me and our previous drummer and after that our current guitarist Hanesh and Bassist Syaz join in the band respectively.  There were some line-up changes throughout our 13 years history and now the line-up is settled as follows.
Clarence – Vocal, Hanesh – Lead Guitar, Noh – Rhythm Guitar, Syaz – Bass and Mitch – Drums.
To be honest the idea of the name ASSAULT was bought upon by my bassist and ex-drummer.  However, I guess I could interpret that the band name has a connection to the music that were written which is straight-forward, in your face kind of metal riffs. Beside that our intention is to keep our name short and sweet.
Asmita- What are the lyrical themes you use in your songs? gore, horror, politics, anti-religion etc..
Clarence- Our lyrical themes usually revolves around the subjects of History and War. Like Our debut EP “The Exception of the Rebellions” (Released in 2011) and our debut album “The Fallen Reich” (Released in 2017) were focusing on the theme of War  e.g. For our debut album it’s a concept album based on the World War 2 nazi regime and how it eventually collapses. Our upcoming new album will be based on a totally new theme. So look out for it in 2020.

Asmita- How it feels to be in a Underground band? And what’s your message to underground community?
Clarence– It feels great and privileged to be in an underground band, as we had the chance to do our own stuff without any restriction from the mainstream media etc. An example the Singapore Metal Scene is a small and cohesive community, every local show we played, we will always see these familiar crowd. On the other hand, the Singapore metal scene is also growing, we’re seeing new faces in our local scene which is good thing!  My message to the underground community all over the world is “KEEP ON DOING WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN AND NEVER GIVE IN OR GIVE UP AND MOST IMPORTANLY SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SCENE BY ATTENDING SHOWS OR PURCHASING THE LOCAL BAND MERCHANDISE!”
Asmita- In general term extreme metal isn't appreciated by Society what do you have to say on this?
Clarence- I guess extreme metal is for people that truly appreciate extreme music. To each of its own, everyone can have a different preference in appreciating something.
Asmita- What is your opinion on the current state of extreme underground music?
Clarence– The current states of underground music is looking very positive, I have been discovering new underground band from all over the world with good releases and I’m optimistic that 2020 will be an even better year for the extreme underground community.
Asmita- Can you recommend us some good bands from your place for our readers?
Clarence– Some of the bands that I would highly recommend from Singapore : Wormrot, Impiety, Rudra, Ilemauzar, Nafrat, Truth Be Known, Krusnix, Dezaster, Coup de Grace…
Asmita- Do you remember the feeling of your first show with Assault? And how did the crowd reacted to your first show?
Clarence– Our first show was in 2007, and it was a non-metal show, in fact it’s for a charity cause. The show was pretty memorable for us because we were performing on the street where people are walking pass us and obviously majority of the crowd that walk pass us did not enjoy the heavy music that we were performing….
Asmita- What do you hate in current underground scene?
Clarence– POLITICS!
Asmita- Support Underground Metal, how much you agree on this quote?
Clarence– 100% agreed! Support Underground Metal, because bands out there are sacrificing their time and money to perform in underground band and it’s all about passion and the love for music.
Asmita- Any thought about touring or playing shows in Nepal and India?
Clarence– Nepal and India has always been our rader for shows since we released our debut album! And honestly, we are looking forward to perform in Nepal and India in 2020 for the new album!
Asmita- Lastly, a space for you anything EUMSN have forgotten to ask you can tell us here?
Clarence– Once again, thank you for giving us this opportunity for this interview! Do check us out at the follow social media pages for our music and updates on our new album to be released in 2020!

Interview with Regicide

Official social links of Regicide
facebook- Regicide

Asmita - First of all, thanks a lot for interview, so what are you really looking forward from Nepali underground scene?

Sudarshan - We have heard that the Nepali underground scene is savage and absolutely loves its extreme metal. We are looking forward immensely to rocking out with Nepali metalheads to our brand of Old School death metal and we hope that they'll give it all their energy.

Asmita - Can I get the short biography  of your band? And what is the meaning of Regicide exactly means to the band?

Sudarshan: Regicide was formed in early 2017 by Sudarshan and Sonaksh as an Old School death metal act drawing influences from Bolt Thrower, Massacre, Unleashed, Cancer etc. The sound of the band is constantly changing and evolving into a more and more savage embodiment of the OSDM genre. The word 'Regicide’ literally means overthrowing of a throne by conspiracy, which in the wider sense, signifies that support of the ruled is vital for the ruling.

Asmita - What are the lyrical themes you use in your songs? gore, horror, politics, anti religion etc..

Sudarahan : Regicide’s lyrical themes are mostly based on Warfare, terrorism, Mythical battles and myths, Religious propoganda etc.

Asmita - How it feels to be in a Underground band? And what’s your message to underground community?

Sudarshan: The underground community remains underground only because of the lack of support of those who profess their love for it. Our message to the underground fans would be to wholeheartedly support what they love to see it grow, because they are the building blocks of the underground.

Asmita - In general term extreme metal isn't appreciated by Society what do you have to say on this?

Sudarshan : Conservative society has its reasons and reservations, however biased, against extreme metal acts and the genre that encompasses these acts. Extreme metal represents conveying emotions and veracious thoughts that are not subject to censorship and screening. It is a society of its own that believes in no discrimination. So the thoughts of any other society about extreme metal is irrelevant.

Asmita - Can you recommend us some good bands from your place for our readers?

Sudarshan : Aempyrean, Kryptos, Anorectal Ulceration, Amorphia, Warmarshal, Infamy, Dying Embrace, Moral Putrefaction etc.

Asmita - Do you remember the feeling of your first show with Regicide? and how did the crowd reacted to your first show?

Sudarshan: Our first show was in an extremely small bar in Bangalore with no stage and no lights. While the sound was terrible, we kept the energy high and the crowd of 50 really responded great to the energy we brought forth, even if not the music at that point.

Asmita - What do you hate in current underground scene?

Sudarshan : Bitching about each other in a small scene instead of supporting each other to get to the top, people who cannot seperate personal beliefs from their music and bands who don't treat their fans with respect.

Asmita -  Support Underground Metal, how much you agree on this quote?

Sudarshan : I agree with it completely. I believe that fans must atleast support bands they like in whatever way they can.

Asmita - Any thought about touring or playing shows in Nepal and India?

Sudsrshan : Yes, we have wanted to tour Nepal and North-east India from a very long time. We hope this can happen soon.

Asmita - Lastly, a space for you anything EUMSN have forgotten to ask you can tell us here?

Sudarshan : We have recently released our Debut EP 'As Skin Turns to flesh’. Make sure to check it out on all digital platforms. Including the Bandcamp link:

Interview with Bruno Dias Matsuda of Neuroticos

Official social networks of Neuroticos -
1.) Website - https://www.neuroticos.com
2.) Facebook - @neuroticos.official
3.) Instagram - NEUROTICOSOFFICIAL
4.) Youtube - NEUROTICOSOFFICIAL
5.) Twitter - neuroticosband

Asmita - First of all, thanks a lot for interview, so what are you really looking forward from Nepali underground scene?
Bruno - First of all, thank you for this opportunity.  We played in Dharan in 2016 during our Asia tour and I was impressed with the scene there. A big audience, good production and good hospitality. Good memories and we hope to be back there soon.

Asmita - Can I get the short biography of your band? And what is the meaning of Stone Cutters exactly means to the band?
Bruno - We started the band in 2004. Since then we haven't stopped and been working hard. We have released one Split, EP, and a full album. We just finished our Japan tour to promote our album ”Kill For God”

”Neuroticos” is in Portuguese. It means Neurotic in English.

Asmita - What are the lyrical themes you use in your songs? gore, horror, politics, anti-religion etc..
Bruno -  I write songs about Religions,  wars and violence. But the main focus is about religions that cause wars and violence. one thing connects to another.

Asmita - How it feels to be in a Underground band? And what’s your message to underground community?
Bruno - Underground is our place as we play extreme music. I don't think the genre will ever be “popular” and we don’t care about getting popular. For me bands like Cannibal Corpse or Napalm Death are big, they are the masters of the scene but still in the underground in a good sense.

Asmita - In general term extreme metal isn't appreciated by Society what do you have to say on this?Bruno - That's good. Extreme music is not for systematic society anyway. That's why it is called ”extreme”

Asmita - What is your opinion on the current state of extreme underground music?
Bruno -  Depends what you mean. In Japan, the scene is still good, we have many new bands and many gigs.

Asmita - Can you recommend us some good bands from your place for our readers?
Bruno -  For sure. Some of my favorite bands from Japan are Baked Bomb, Blind Hate, they are both from Hiroshima, and Taste From Sendai. There is a new great band called Invictus from Nagano and Cry from Kanagawa also. Grind fans must check Teathgrinder from Netherlands, and Inhumate from France.

Asmita - Do you remember the feeling of your first show with Stone Cutters? And how did the crowd reacted to your first show?
Bruno -  I remember that it was terrible. We were very young back then and now it makes me laugh about it. But the feeling of being on the stage is unforgettable,  I felt like ” I'm the man, I am on the stage ”  and it was good for the young boy back then.

Asmita - What do you hate in current underground scene?
Bruno - We don't need enemies in the scene, we need friendship to support the underground scene that will be good for everyone. But I think promoters and production are becoming  like rivals.

Asmita - Support Underground Metal, how much you agree on this quote?
Bruno -   I support 100%. But it has to come out naturally, not forced.  Many people ”Try” to be involved in the extreme music but give up.

Asmita - Any thought about touring or playing shows in Nepal and India?
Bruno - we haven't gotten any plans but I really want to go back to Nepal again. And we have never played in India, that will be insane!

Asmita - Lastly, a space for you anything EUMSN have forgotten to ask you can tell us here?
Bruno - Thank you again for this opportunity. Please check and follow our website including other links. Hope to see you guys soon, cheers.

Interview with Dondon Collado of Maticrust.

Would a band not be considered underground anymore since they are promoting their music through social media??

Visit MATICRUST here.

Suchu - What are you doing nowadays?
Dondon - For now we’re busy doing new stuffs for new EP, hopefully it will come out soon later this year.

Suchu - Can i get the story of your band and biography? What is the meaning of Maticrust and what does it mean to the band?
Dondon - MATICRUST came from the Filipino – Tagalog word "MATIkas"which means: firm, strong and refined. Adding "CRUST"; to its name which is based from their influences - Anarcho Crust Punk // In Grind We Crust vista during their teenage years involvement in the underground scene / movement and the DIY Pinoy Punk Scene way back early 90's. MATICRUST are all expats in the U.A.E. hailing from Abu Dhabi (UAE Capital) Originally born and raise from the Third world hell hole Philippines. Nevertheless our foundation from the underground scene gave us the jolt to pursue once again our passion and interest in the so called counter culture of mankind.

Suchu - What are the lyrical themes you use in your song? Gore, Horror, Politics, Anti religion etc..
Dondon - Our music tackled socio-political mainly oppression, discrimination, equality and apathy for the greed.

Suchu - How it feels to be in an Underground band? And for how many years you are in this scene?
Dondon - Feels like no one is controlling you and we’re free to do what ever we want and we are supported by people who feel really passionate about our music. We’re in the scene since the mid-90’s.

Suchu - Which are the bands that have influenced your band most?
Dondon - Our influence are Insect Warfare, Extreme Noise Terror, Warsore ,Terrorizer, Disrupt, Masskontroll, and Doom.

Suchu - What are the future plans of Maticrust? any tours, releases, recordings etc.
Dondon - Our main plan is to do EP’s. Touring is second but limited due to individual priority. EP hopefully it will be finished by later this year as I said and for tour if everything's okay from both side we planning to play at asakusa deathfest in japan by October this year. For some tribute compilation is the Warsore Tribute Via Extreme Terror, Grindfather Production and Power-it-up Records are now in 10” EP limited to 500 copies only. 39 bands total.

Suchu - What is your opinion on sites posting Underground Materials?
Dondon - My opinion on that it helps a band or a scene be known easily and accessible without hassle.

Suchu - How do you feel about the classifications in metal? like Deathcore, Metalcore and other Subgenres..
Dondon - About new Music of what we called nowadays to this new genres for me it’s all the same. that depends how it’s delivered musically and lyrically. And as long you’re passionate to establish it I guess there’s no boundaries on that.

Suchu - In general term extreme metal isn't appreciated by Society what do you have to say on this?
Dondon - Ever since it is not appreciated that’s why it stays Underground means limited people who’ll understand and only those who are passionate only. That is why we’re lucky that we belong to this radical society.

Suchu - Ok, what do you want to tell those peoples who rips off the band hard work and illegally downloads their music?
Dondon - For me it’s not a big deal as far us underground is concern because it helps the bands exposure too, but the most important is the permission came from the band itself. It’s like respect.

Suchu - Beside Maticrust do you have any other projects too?
Dondon - Only Maticrust

Suchu - Is it hard surviving in underground Scene?
Dondon - We are all surviving in the UG scene as long as there are people who believes in the music or artistry of Maticrust!

Suchu - Metal has to be underground or metal has to go mainstream, what's your opinion?
Dondon - This is a topic which is hard to tackle; would a band not be considered underground anymore since they are promoting their music through social media?? or sharing it through spotify or soundcloud? Is that too mainstream already? If we believe in the UG old way, then shows should be promoted through flyers and spreading the news through verbal words and not on FB event page right?? So this is the part we ask ourselves on where is the borderline in defining if we are still UG or being a mainstream. If a band gets the recognition they deserved and unexpectedly, will they be at fault? Bash them and say you are becoming mainstream now. Is there a written 10 commandments on how to stay underground and not be noticed? Anyways, I hope you get my point, hahaha!

Suchu - What is your opinion on the current state of underground metal?
Dondon - That depends on where you live in or which country. If I am going to give the current situation of the Middle East UG, well, it’s hard sometimes to have shows especially if we need to ask permission from the authority to play at a certain place. Promoters can take the risk not be caught. So yeah, it’s a struggle worth doing!

Suchu - Which is the album you want to take to your grave?
Dondon - Disrupt ( Unrest Album ), Terrorizer ( World Down Fall Album ) and Brutal Truth ( Extreme, Condition Demand Extreme Response Album )

Suchu - Can you recommend us some good bands from your country for our readers?
Dondon - There’s a lot to mention but here are some kick-ass bands in the my hometown Giling-Anne, Coarse, Eradikatorr, Saipek, Repugnant and Absolute Truth.

Suchu - .”Support Underground Metal”, how much you agree on this quote?
Dondon - I believe in camaraderie, friendship, brotherhood, sisterhood, and so on! These are things that you can find when you support the UG scene. If you attend a show and you don’t really like the bands performing.. just show your ass-up! Give your support! Everyone will always have a good time. .

Suchu - Where do our readers can buy and listen Maticrust music and any other merchandise?
Dondon - On our FB page https://www.facebook.com/maticrustofficial/ , we’ll keep you posted.

Suchu - Do you remember your first show with Maticrust, How was it and how did the crowd reacted to your first show?
Dondon - Our first show was in Dubai, the crowd are stoked because we’re the first band played grind and crust core to that gig. They appreciate and enjoy it well.

Suchu - Metal Fans from Nepal doesn't have a proper way to reach your records and any other such bands, Is there an easy way so we can also get the hold of cds, shirts etc.
Dondon - It’s difficult mostly our merch came from the label itself especially ep’s for merch it will be limited because we only produced it if we have some tour for support on our expenses for travel only.

Suchu - Do you have any plans to come to Nepal in coming days?
Dondon - If given the opportunity and invite, of course that will be great! We heard a lot about the UG scene there. Would be interesting to experience it!

Suchu - What do you hate in Underground Metal? like, anything..
Dondon - Unfortunately, politics or controversy still happens. We just stop giving a sh*t about it

Suchu - Lastly, a space for you anything EUMSN have forgotten to ask you can tell us here?
Dondon - Thanks Suchitra of EUMSN for this warm interview on us, it means more to me!!! Keep the Passion Burning and Grind-On as always!!!
