"We are too small of a band to suggest something to someone. But we believe in making music"
Visit Mustang here.
Eumsn - First of all, thanks a lot for choosing to play in Nepal next. So what are you really looking forward to from Nepali supporters?
Mustang - First of all we would like to thank Vishal and all the hard working organizers and crews of EUMSN for giving us this opportunity to perform in Nepal. This is our very first out station gig and it's taking place in Kathmandu, Nepal. I believe you guys can sense our excitement and it's really a huge honor for us to play in front of all those die hard metal maniacs of Kathmandu. We heard lots of tales about the insane crowd of Nepal from our brother's from Armament (India) and Thrash(Bangladesh) when they went there to perform a year ago or so. We heard how energetic and badass the crowd were. So we are really looking forward to deliver our doze of old school speed metal in the land of mighty Himalaya and also eagerly waiting to meet all these maniacs and see 'em bangin' their freakin' neck against the wall and obviously some freestyle marital art moves in the pit. Haha (chuckles).
Eumsn - Can I get a short biography on band? And what is
the meaning of Mustang means to the band?
Mustang - Well, MUSTANG means wild untamed horse. When we decide to form a ol' school heavy/speed metal band the very first name that struck our mind is this. It's sounding heavy and it portrays the true spirit of ourselves. We are free, we are reckless and on a loose.

MUSTANG was formed nearly 4 years back but from the very beginning we are struggling with a solid and dedicated line up. People came, people went and it took us nearly 3 years to find the suitable guys for this band who wants to play ol' school heavy/speed metal from their heart and sworn to bring back the golden and thunderous days of 80's true spirit of metal. MUSTANG is,
MANIAC on Drums.
THUNDERBASTARD on Bass.
STYX and SORCERER on Axe duties.
PIERCER on Vocals.
We released our first single called, "TERROR STRIKER" almost one year back and it gathered huge responses not only from India but mainly from the N/S America and Europe underground scene.
Then after few months we released our second demo single, "BLACK STEEL" and it also received a good response. Our both of the song got aired on the famous U.S.A metal radio station 'METAL MESSIAH' and it's a huge honor for a small band like us who just started their musical quest one years back. Currently we are writing new materials for our upcoming physical release.
Eumsn - What lyrical themes do you use in your songs?
Gore, horror, politics, anti-religion etc.
Mustang - We don't follow any hard and fast rules while composing song and writing lyrics. We all have different ideas and influences so at first we look after the ideas and if we find it promising enough then we give it a go. We try to go with the flow but mainly we love to dwell on the darker side. Our song lyrics are based on horror, sorcery and witches, gore and evil things but we are also nourishing new different ideas for our physical release.

Eumsn - How it feels to be in a Underground band? And
what’s your suggestions to other Underground bands?
Mustang - Underground scene is always a true and supreme force when it comes to metal music in general. It's only because of the underground scene lots of bands are still surviving, getting their well deserved recognition and fame and new bands are getting inspiration to make new music. Underground metal scene broke the barrier between musicians and fans. In underground scene there is no place for 'Rockstars' and we all are huge family. This very ideology we respect the most. It's been a huge honor to be a part of this underground metal family, get to know new people's and to fight for the glory of metal.

Well, we are too small of a band to suggest something to someone. But we believe in making music, giving good performances (which matters the most), staying away from all the negativity as far as you can and most importantly staying humble and grounded. Cause all the musicians we follow or worship as an idols are good and honest human beings at first then a good musician.
Eumsn - In general, extreme metal isn't appreciated by
society. What do you have to say about this?
Mustang - As the society considers extreme music or extreme lifestyle as a counter culture, which is quite understandable because most people lives a moderate way of life. But then again at the end its a way protesting, overcoming. Yeah it's not appreciated by all. We are different and it's good to be different and it is not always possible to please everyone. Rather we don't make music keeping the normal people in minds. Only the ones who understand us can feel a connection, and for the rest...

Eumsn - What is your opinion on the current state of
extreme underground music?
Mustang - As far as I can say, the underground extreme metal scene is still going strong. It is tough to believe that even metal and its audience has managed to uphold the culture. Though situation can be better with a better number of supporters and acceptance so that musicians could get paid for the performances, but we like to look at the brighter side of life and it actually feels great to have bands playing passionately even when there is no money involved (though there could have been a considerable downfall if money did get involved) and a gradual rise in the number of live shows, where live performances were restricted to competitions only few years ago (in Kolkata) and we guess thats just what an artist truly desires for i.e. exposure and a stage to showcase their talent.

Eumsn - Can you recommend to us some good bands from
your place for our readers?
Mustang - We consider ourselves very fortunate cause Kolkata underground metal scene is currently going through a great transition and undoubtedly the most richest and versatile (both in terms of musicality) ol' school metal scene in India.

Where you can find bunch of fresh bands. Grindcore bands like Mishanter, ol' school thrash bands like The Neighborhood Thrashers aka TNT and Dreadhammer, Vulgustrike. Total 80's inspired glam/heavy metal bands like Knight and Machate. Extreme war metal bands like Kapala, AR and many more. Beside that there are bunch of veteran acts like In-human, Armament are still here to grace our scene with great music.
Eumsn - Do you
remember the feeling of your first show with Mustang? and how did the crowd
reacted to your first show?
Mustang - You know there are few moments in everyone's life which we cherished forever and we took all those vivid memories to our graves. Our first live gig was also like the same. We were all pumped up and thrilled at the same time to unleash ourselves for the very first time in front of our loyal supporters and little bit tensed at the same time (which is quite normal we believe). Some different kinds of rush and adrenaline were running through all of our veins. It's actually bit difficult to express all these raw emotions in words. In short it was something that we will never forget. The stage, the thunderous sounds of amplifiers, the screaming of the audiences everything we clearly remember. It was surreal.

The crowd was brilliant. One couldn't ask for a loyal and better audiences. They always supported us from their hearts, made us comfortable and always supplied energy from the front. I guess the most sweetest sound is when all the crowd yelling out your bands name. That is really something.
Eumsn - What do you hate in the current underground
scene?
Mustang - Nothing to hate actually. The underground scene is spreading it's wings very steadily. New bands are forming. More and more people are getting connected with metal. Organizers are working their ass off to organize a new show and giving all the audiences their value for money. All this things are sign of positive deeds that everyone are doing. But there is always a place for improvements. If we add more professional approach towards our work I believe we can reach the greater heights in near future.
