Read and share the interview of Pisakas with Asmita Magar. Pisakas is Death Metal band from India.
Asmita - First
of all, thanks a lot for interview, so what are you really looking forward from
Nepal underground scene?
Pisakas - Our
pleasure!! Thanks for your time. Stoked to see so many killer bands popping out
from the crypts of Nepal.
We want to see more gigs and hang out with lots of other underground bands from
the local as well as other parts of the world to come and experience the
extremity and to put the scene in the
global extreme metal arena. Can't wait to meet our mongols and enjoy!!
Asmita - Can I
get the short biography of your band? And what is the meaning of Pisakas
exactly
means to the band?
Pisakas - Well,
Pisakas is a word from the Indian mythology which signifies demons that feast
on dead corpses.
It essentially can be linked to common Hindi word in use “Pishachas”. We were
basically searching for a name that had an Indian origin but still was uncommon
or had an element of mystery to it. We also had a fair idea about what we like
to project as a band and this name just fit very well to the bands identity. We
initially started as a death-thrash band in 2009 and later forayed into the
death metal scene of Bangalore. This was after about 2-3 years of our formation
when we crossed paths with Pranaw. During that period, there was a gradual
change in our sonic impact and we swayed more in to extreme metal and finally
stuck to old school death metal brutality. We played in a lot of underground
gigs in India and Nepal over these years and released our debut EP titled
‘Nefarious Exigency’ in 2015. After which prior to some months our rhythm
guitarist, Nilesh, had to quit the band and we became a 3 piece band as of present.
After which in 2018 we released our debut album “Fabricated Animosity”
independently via bandcamp and we are yet to unleash the new beast LIVE soon.
Asmita - What are
the lyrical themes you use in your songs? Gore, horror, politics, anti religion
etc..
Pisakas - Our
themes include Atrocities in the society, anti-religion, genocide, terrorism,
war crimes, apocalypse and gore.
Asmita - How
it feels to be in an Underground band? And what’s your message to underground
community?
Pisakas - It
was always the DIY attitude we carried throughout our lives, so the good
feeling is not just for being in the band but the lifestyle as a whole. It was
more of putting our thoughts and lifestyle choices into our music. The only
message we can give is that there are no rules and set processes. Do what needs
to be done and do it your own way and in your own terms.Let your passion drive
you to find out DIY ways to do anything and please dont care about likes and
all that fancy ass shit. Trends will die but a sick composition will live on
for eternity!!
Asmita - In
general term extreme metal isn't appreciated by Society what do you
have to say on this?
Pisakas – Extreme
metal was not supposed to be appreciated by society at the first place thats
why its
extreme!!! But we see a lot of bands pushing it hard to
be heard, to be marketed and promoted, to be
labelled, to be accepted by all. I mean COMMON!!! Extreme
metal is not meant for acceptance but for deliverance of raw aggression and honesty to express the
bands ideas. Its this type of extreme genre that has prevented the mainstream to infiltrate as
termites to eat away the true passion from inside out.We say, please, less people more FUN!!
Asmita - What
is your opinion on the current state of extreme underground music?
Pisakas - There
was and will always be the underground lurking somewhere in the shadows being
heard
by only a finite group of people passionate about it and
making sure its being distributed to other
people who actually listen and love this genre rather
then just for the sake of promoting. It will always grow stronger each day and we hope more people with
serious intentions giving it a shot and become a part of our small but extreme family.
Asmita - Can you recommend us some good bands from your
place for our readers?
Pisakas - Xrepeatx, Grossty, Scally, Breeding Machine ,Armament, Necrophilia, Chaotic Breed etc.
Asmita - Do you remember the feeling of
your first show with Pisakas ? And how did the crowd reacted to your first show?
Pisakas - Oh
it was one of those cliche cultural festival opening shows where we were young,
drunk and ready to rock. We started as a death thrash so lot of
sepultura covers and few OC’s. It was a jam
packed venue but hardly anyone ever realized or
comprehended what the flying fuck is going on in the stage!!!
Asmita - What do you hate in current underground scene?
Pisakas - Hipsters,Trendy
shit, crying like a bitch over recording studios, labels, mainstream promotion, need for acceptance for the bands from the masses etc.
Asmita - Support Underground Metal, how much you agree
with this quote?
Pisakas - 100
percent!!. Support and share(Not just FB share but actually sitting with same
interest peeps and talking about it)!!
Asmita - Any
thoughts about touring or playing shows in Nepal and India?
Pisakas - We
generally do not do a lot of shows due to logistics and members situated over
long distances from each other but we are currently planning for a gig
in Nepal soon. It will also be the official album launch gig after a year and a half of releasing.
Can't wait!!!
Asmita - Lastly,
a space for you anything EUMSN have forgotten to ask you can tell us here?
Pisakas - Full
support and Love to our mongols in EUMSN. You guys have set a terrific
benchmark for other asian countries and we love all that you do for promoting and
organizing gigs for the underground to people who love it!!Keep going and Nepal Underground is not far
away from being the monster of this world!!
