Interview with Fiaz Grinder of Asilent (Brutal Death Metal from Singapore)

Official Band Page -  https://www.facebook.com/AsilentBand?fref=ts

Biography :- Asilent was brought fort by Fiaz on bass guitar in October 2004.

Fiaz then approached Farhan, who used to play in the same band with him before, to take on the guitarist position. The assembly was almost complete, but they were still missing a Skins Blaster/Drummer. Months passed and entered Kenny, an old friend of the band, who was called in the drummer for Asilent.

Fiaz proposed Emile to take up the vocalist position and tried his new role out for their rehearsals. Emile turned out to have a hidden talent behind the microphone and projected such viciousness and intensity in his vocals that left the band stunned.

The year now is 2011, and most unfortunately, with a tinge of regret. Emile has officially left Asilent due to unforeseen circumstances. Emile is still good friends with the guys. We wish him the very best in his future endeavours.

We are proud to have Danial Dahl on board to take over vocal duties... Also we have Nizam of Whorehouse Butchery fame on guitars...
Debut album is out NOW 2012 under Sevared Records (USA)

With heavy heart we are announcing our long time brother and the guy behind the drums Kenny will be leaving the band due to personal reasons and commitments. We wish his the very best in his future endeavors and he will always be an important part of our history.

Also we would like to welcome our new well renown drummer from pioneers and kings of grindcore in Indonesia NOXA, Alvin to the drum throne. We are excited and really looking forward to this partnership.

Currently we are playing shows promoting our debut album & also workinng on new materials. Do look out for more updates soon.

Vishal - What are you doing nowadays?
Fiaz - Well for me just basically working my ass off at work of course, working on new materials for Asilent and also busy preparing the arrival for our new drummer Alvin (NOXA).

Vishal - Can i get the story of your band and biography? What is the meaning of Asilent exactly means to the band?
Fiaz - Asilent started back in 2004 by me. Asilent use to be my side project as at that time I was in another band. As time passes my musical interest for the other band diminished and I wanted to do something more faster, heavier and brutal. So l left the other band and concentrated on Asilent and 9 years later here we are. We use to be a 5 piece band with 2 guitarists but the chemistry wasn’t there, so we decide to stick to 1 guitarist and me the bassist. There have been lineup changes throughout the years but currently we have the strongest lineup. Asilent actually came about when I was watching a movie about some guy who was in an Asylum but he was mute and couldn’t shout so I played around with the words Asylum plus Silent and that is where the band name Asilent is born LOL..

Vishal - What are the lyrical themes you use in your song?gore, horror, politics, anti religion etc..
Fiaz - Lyrics wise, we love the zombie sub culture plus gore and we want to incorporate that into our lyrics but with deeper meaning relating to modern society and its problems that we face.

Vishal - How it feels to be in a Underground band? And for how many years you are in this scene?
Fiaz - Honestly I love playing in an underground band and being in the underground scene. The misconception is that the underground scene is small, but hell places in Europe, North and South America, Asia especially Indonesia has a crazy HUGE underground scene. I have been playing in the underground scene for about 11 years now and Asilent has been around for 9 years now.

Vishal - Which are the bands that have influenced your band most?
Fiaz - Well musically definitely Gorgasm, Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation, Pyaemia, Abominable Putridity, Putridity, Jasad & Nasum. Lyrically our influence are zombies movies, books, cartoons anything related to zombies is definitely our influence.

Vishal - What are the future plans of Asilent? any tours, releases, recordings etc.
Fiaz - We will be releasing a new album in 2014, we are currently working on our new songs and hopefully will complete it by end of 2013. We also working with a new drummer Alvin from NOXA which we are really excited. Lastly we decide that the new album will be recorded in Jakarta, Indonesia just because we love Indonesia so much that we need to get the new album recorded there. We have a final show in 2013 in Thailand we will update more on that in the coming months and hopefully in late 2014 mini US tour & 2015 a Europe tour. That’s the major plans we have now and any updates you can check on our facebook page (www.facebook.com/AsilentBand)

Vishal - What is your opinion on sites posting Underground Materials?
Fiaz - I think its great thing entirely, reason being there loads of bands out there that needs underground sites to help promote them. Even when we first got the Asilent name out there, we had the help of contacts and sources from underground sites.

Vishal - How do you feel about the classifications in metal? like deathcore, metalcore and other subgenres..
Fiaz - Everything is ever changing in this world even music, that’s evolution. Musicians will always try to create a new sound that’s different and interesting to captivate the audience. It’s either you do right and people will love it or you produce entirely crap which people will still listen and support but true musician will know its shit. Honestly for me and my band we love all kinds of music and believe that some music should just stay how it is and not change. But our ultimate love is still brutal death and grind stuff.

Vishal - In general term metal isn't appreciated by Society what do you have to say on this?
Fiaz -
Well before it’s hard for society and now it’s really hard for them to accept extreme music, BUT slowly its openin up towards extreme music not alot but a little. Honestly that’s better then not excepting entirely right.

Vishal - Ok, what do you want to tell those peoples who rips off the band hard work and illegally downloads their music?
Fiaz - Well in the current society, the mass audience rely on downloads to check bands out and discover new bands. Honestly i’m fine with it to a certain extend. For me I will download as well just tochec out their stuff but after once I enjoy it i will personally buy the CD to support and keep. BUT i totally don’t agree how loads of bands rip of artworks from other bands, now THAT is fucking disgusting. Artist work really hard at the artwork and the bands pay loads of money for it so ripping the artwork off is just pure fucking disrespectful.

Vishal - Beside Asilent do you have any other projects you have? If then, Can you tell us about those projects in few words?
Fiaz - Besides Asilent I have another side project I’m working on call POBREZA. It a death grind band with influences from Misery Index, Nasum, Rotten Sound, Dyscarnate & Gorgasm. Only thing about this band is the other members are all foreigners from places like US & Belgium. For Asilent im the bassist and second vocalist, but for Pobreza, I’m the drummer. Currently we just woring stuff out nothing concrete but once Asilent more settled and release our second album and done with touring, then we will release some materials for this band. So do keep a look out for it.

Vishal - Is it hard surviving in underground Scene?
Fiaz - Yes it’s definitely hard surviving in the underground scene, that’s why most of us even big bands like Suffocation all have day jobs that supports our passion / music /band and not forgetting our family and other responsibilities like bills and all. We still continue.

Vishal - Metal has to be underground or metal has to go mainstream, what's your opinion?
Fiaz - Honestly it doesn’t bother me whether bands are underground or mainstream, different musicians / bands have their ideology. All bands wants success like bands Suffocation, Cannibal Corpse, Behemoth, Vader etc... But like I said depends on the bands itself, for me and my band we are definitely aiming to greater heights and success.

Vishal - What is your opinion on the current state of underground metal?
Fiaz - The current state of the underground scene is actually getting better and better. Slowly and surely you loads of Asian bands getting exposed in the international extreme music scene which is awesome as people before use to think highly of bands from western countries, now you have loads of asian bands making a name for themselves which is fucking awesome.

Vishal - Which is the album you want to take to your grave?
Fiaz - AHAHAHA can I take all of it. Ok honestly I would take all my Gorgasm releases from their Stabwound Intercourse demo to the latest Orgy of Murder album. I’m a huge fan of Gorgasm.

Vishal - Can you recommend us some good bands from your country for our readers?
Fiaz - There a few good bands from my country from all genre of extreme music, most definitely you will know Wormrot, Truth Be Known, Fall of Mirra, Xanadoo, Embrace them Ghost, Demisor, Snaggletooth, Impiety, Analdicktion are just a few there are probably many more yet to be discovered.

Vishal - Support Underground Metal, how much you agree on this quote?
Fiaz - I totally agree with that statement if there’s no support there will be no underground scene at all.

Vishal - Where do our readers can buy and listen Asilent and any other merchandise?
Fiaz - Well you can get our CD’s and other merchandise from us or you can order it from our label Sevared Records and other labels like Comatose Music, Pathological Explicit Recordings are to name a few. BUT if you are lazy like me you can get it on iTunes or Amazon the easiest way AHAHAHA. Vishal - Do you remember your first show with Asilent, How was it and how did the crowd reacted to your first show?
Fiaz - AHAHAHAH yes I remember and will never forget ever. It was this show call Hellnihilation, we were the first few opening bands had about 10 to 15 people at a small venue AHAHAH oh my god brings back memories.

Vishal - Metal Fans from Nepal doesn't have a proper way to reach your records and any other such bands, Is there an easy way so we can also get the hold of cds, shirts etc.
Fiaz - Honestly bro, the best way is to order online from the labels itself or what I suggest EUMSN becomes distributer for all extreme bands outside Nepal.

Vishal - Do you have any plans to come to Kathmandu in coming days?
Fiaz - We would really love to perform in Kathmandu, hopefully sometime in the future after our second alum release we would head down to Nepal to perform.

Vishal - What do you hate in Underground Metal?like, anything..
Fiaz - Honestly I hate people/bands who think they are better then everyone else. I have personally witnessed and personally know bands that are like that, the worst thing is they produce SHIT music and think they are really good. There are bands like that everywhere.

Vishal - Your dream metal fest line up.
Fiaz - Oh shit, well definitely GORGASM, DYSCARNATE, MISERY INDEX, NASUM, PYAEMIA, DISGORGE (US) & (MEX), WORMROT, DEFEATED SANITY, ROTTEN SOUND, JASAD, NOXA, DOWN FROM THE WOUND, TOOLS OF THE TRADE, ASILENT (OF COURSE LOL) & CANNIBAL CORPSE.. Thats my dream fest lineup AHAHAHAH
